Skywatcher is one of today's most prominent brands for telescopes and accessories. Production "made in China", intensive quality control and a reduction of organization overhead result in an excellent value for money and competitive prices which are this brand's key strength.

By now Skywatcher has reached a level of quality similar to that of other, much more expensive manufacturers. This makes Skywatcher a perfect choice for beginners and advanced amateurs alike!

Refractor telescopes made by Sky-Watcher include regular medium-to-long focal length achromats, short tube rich field telescopes and even ED refractors with improved color correction.

Rich-field refractor 80/400mm on EQ-1
The Skywatcher 80/400mm Rich-Field refractor is one thing above all: Ultra-portable! It will fit into any suitcase, even for airline traveling. Once set up the 80/400 will offer stunning rich field views. Stroll through the milky-way and find hundreds of star clusters and nebulae located in the midst of myriads of stars! With a 25mm eyepiece you get a magnification of only 16x, resulting in a true field of view of over 3°! This is equivalent to six times the diameter of the full moon!

The telescope can also be used to some extent for planetary observing. For this we recommend not to go beyond about 100x magnification and to use our TS CC 1 variable colour filter to reduce false colour.

Astro Imaging:
Another strong point of this telescope is its use as a 400mm Tele-lens f/5. Thanks to its integrated T2 thread for easy adaptation the telescope will offer good quality images of astronomical and terrestrial objects.

Focuser:
The focuser has the standard 1.25" which allows you to use many standard accessories. A T2 thread is integrated in its design, allowing the attachment of SLR cameras with only the need for a T-ring and no further adaptors.

Skywatcher Refractor - Aperture 102mm / Focal Length 1000mm

Skywatcher refractor 102/1000 on EQ3 - a good combination for beginners.

This refractor's longer focal ratio brings along a further reduced chromatic aberration (false colour) compared to the f/5 version, thus enhancing the image quality on the moon and the planets. You can use high magnifications up to the theoretical limit of 200x without distracting false colour. There will be some remaining false colour, but this can be cut off by the use of a light yellow filter.

Despite this, the telescope is still well suited for deep-sky observations. Using 1.25" eyepieces you will get a true field of view of up to 1.6° - more than three times the moon's diameter. 2" accessories will offer even wider fields of view.

Photographically, you will get wonderful results with the moon and the planets. The smooth 2" focuser allows for precise focusing and will keep even heavy accessories precisely in position.

Features:
- Collimatable metal lens cell
- quick release finderscope
- 2" metal focuser with 1.25" and T2 adaptor
- piggy back camera holder

Applications:
This telescope's main advantage is its incredible versatility. The telescope can be used both for planetary viewing and deep sky, as well as for astro-imaging.

Rich-Field Refractor - Aperture 120mm / Focal Length 600mm

Rich Field Refractor 120/600mm on AZ-3 alt-azimuth mount.
An ultra-portable combination for easy travelling.

Until recently it was next to impossible to produce fast rich field refractors of such a large aperture at a reasonable price. Only modern machines make this possible. Now it is possible to offer such a fast telescope at an affordable price and with a colour correction that will allow magnifications slightly beyond 100x without too much false colour.

This turns the 120mm rich field telescope into a very popular, very compact and thus highly portable telescope.

Visual Use:
This is a true rich field telescope. It combines a large aperture of 120mm with a very short focal length for large fields of view. Just enjoy "walking" through the milky-way with its star clusters and gas nebulae, all of which embedded in myriads of background stars. Or have a look at the Great Andromeda Galaxy which can be seen in splendid detail!

Watching the planets or the moon is not the strong point of this telescope. False colour will be prominent around those objects. With our TS CC 1 variable colour filter you can reduce the fringe of course, then some successful planetary and lunar observations are possible.

Astro-Imaging:
This telescope also resembles a very powerful tele lens with a focal length of 600mm at f/5. High quality deep sky images are possible. We do recommend to use a Violet Reduction filter to reduce false colour and a field flattening lens to get a sharper image throughout the field if you use a DLSR camera (recommended cameras)

Skywatcher Refractor - Aperture 120mm / Focal Length 1000mm

Refractor 120/1000mm - an excellent telescope for demanding observers who enjoy the deep sky as well as the planets.

The refractor with an aperture of 120mm and 1000mm focal length is one of the closest things to a universal telescope there is. It performs gallantly in nearly all applications, be it visual observing of the planets, the deep sky or astro imaging.

The telescope is still quite portable for field use.

Visual Use:
With a moderate focal ratio of f/8.3 the telescope exhibits some false colour, but the effect is still very moderate. We can recommend the telescope even for planetary observing. Of course a TS CC 1 variable colour filter helps to reduce this potential problem to a minimum. With that help and under good seeing conditions the Cassini division in Saturn's rings or details on Mars' surface are easily visible.

Beyond our solar system many thousand objects are within reach of this telescope. With 2" eyepieces you can get very large true fields of view for joyous strolls through the milky-way with its open clusters and nebulae. Famous nebulae like the Veil nebula can be seen in detail (here we recommend the Astronomik UHC filter for a large gain in contrast).

Magnifications as high as 150x are possible with no loss in contrast. This makes the ring nebula M57 and other planetary nebulae an interesting target for this telescope.

Astro-Imaging:
Another area in which this telescope performs very well is astro-iimaging. The telescope will offer high resolution images of the moon and planets, e.g. with a Philips webcam. Fine structures can be seen on the moon that are beyond reach of smaller instruments.

Deep Sky imaging is also possible. For this we recommend to use a Canon modified DSLR camera and a field flattening lens for optimal performance.

Rich-Field Refractor - Aperture 150mm / Focal Length 750mm

Rich Field Refractor 150/750mm on H-EQ5 equatorial mount - a sturdy combination for visual and photographical use.

Skywatcher offers one of the largest affordable f/5 rich field refractors on the market. This telescope is an extreme comet catcher - it offers very large fields of view - particularly with 2" accessories - at a refractor-like high contrast. With its short tube length of only about 80cm it is very portable despite its weight of 11kgs.

Visual Use:
This is a true rich field telescope. It is particularly suited for all kinds of extended objects like large galaxies, gas nebulae, star clusters, comets, ... With its refractor-like contrast you will see pinpoint stars. The aesthetic views through such a telescope are highly addictive!

On the down side this telescope is not particularly suited for viewing the moon and the planets. With a yellow filter or with the TS CC 1 variable colour filter you will still be able to see lots of details on these objects. Tip: You should stop down the telescope to about 120mm aperture - that way you get a better contrast, reduced false colour and more image sharpness.

Astro-Imaging:
Good nebular filters or violet reduction filters are required, but then you get a very powerful telephoto lens with an enormous focal length of 750mm at f/5. This will allow you to take high resolution images of galaxies with their spiral structure, or of gas nebulae.

The 2" Focuser:
The 2" focuser with 1.25" adaptor allows you to use all common astronomical eyepieces. You can also use professional 2" accessories and adaptors.

The focuser can be locked in position for long exposure astro-imaging.

Recommended Magnifications: 25x to 240x (from around 100x we recommend to use the TS CC 1 variable colour filter for reduction of false colour.)

Rich-Field Refractor - Aperture 150mm / Focal Length 1200mm

Refractor 150/1200mm on EQ6 equatorial mount - a very sturdy combination

Achromat 150/1200mm on CAM GoTo - the tube colour is blue, not black as depicted.
Until recently 150mm aperture refractors have been reserved to observatories and a few really rich people. Chinese mass-production has attempted to change this for some time. Recently the production quality of the Chinese manufacturers has reached a very good level, while at the same time prices have remained much lower than would be possible for production within Europe.

The 150mm refractor with 1200mm focal length is at the upper limit of what can be called portable. The tube is some 125cm long and weighs about 12kgs.

Other than the shorter focal length rich field refractor this model is suited for all astronomical observations.

Visual Use:
This refractor is a high performance telescope for observations of objects within our solar system. Jupiter's moons become small discs of different size rather than just points of light. Mars reveals many details including its polar caps (filters are always recommended when viewing Mars). Moon is of course a particular highlight, with countless craters, ridges and other details that make you feel like you actually were there!

Outside our solar system 150mm aperture offer plenty of light for serious deep sky work. You can watch gas nebulae, globular clusters (dissolved into single stars) and many galaxies. We recommend to use 2" accessories for extended deep sky objects - you will then not only see the object itself, but also many surrounding stars for a more aesthetic image.

Astro-Imaging:
The telescope is suited both for planetary and lunar imaging (e.g. with a webcam) and long exposure deep sky imaging. We recommend to invest in a very sturdy mount to accomodate the heavy and long tube.

2" Focuser:
The 2" with its 1.25" adaptor allows you to use all common 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and accessories. A locking screw will fix the focuser in position for long exposure astro-imaging.

Recommended Magnifications:
30x to 300x. For magnifications beyond 150x you should use colour filters or the TS CC 1 variable colour filter to reduce false colour.

Accessories:
Powerful 8x50 quick release finderscope, 1.25" star diagonal, 20mm and 10mm Super Kellner eyepieces (diagonal and eyepieces not available with the OTA version)

Multi-coated lens in collimatable cell for optimized image quality
