Teleskop-Service Open House, 5 July 2008

For the fourth time in a row we have held our annual Open House for our customers and all other people interested in having a look at our shop. The event has been great fun and we had more visitors than ever before.

The weather god has been - yet again - very favourable: The sunny weather allowed us to offer our customers the opportunity for solar observing - in white light, with contrast boosting filters, in CaK and of course in H-Alpha!

We would like to thank...

... our many visitors and colleagues for the great fun and interest in our company! Without you such an event wouldn't be the same! It was great to see so many of you and to have the opportunity to talk with you!

Baader Planetarium, LUNT Solar Systems and Travel Dobsonians !!!

We were very happy to have with us some of our most important business partners who have gone to great lengths to improve the event by their presence, their very interesting presentations and the opportunity for our visitors to get first-hand information directly from our suppliers!

And now... A Few Impressions of the Day:

The first visitors were already there when we opened at 9 a.m. Around 11 a.m. the entire compound was flooded with visitors and it remained that way until approximately 4 p.m.

The Sun was of course the main object for observing during the day. Baader, Lunt and our colleague Andi Murner had together set up no less than 10 different telescopes for solar observing: Everything from "normal" white light observing, over the use of Solar Continuum contrast boosting filters, up to CaK and H-Alpha filters and telescopes was offered.

On the right lower side of the image you can see (a part of) our new 16" GSO Truss Tube Dobsonian. This gave our customers the opportunity to see that the three truss design does indeed work! Many visitors were particularly impressed by such innovations as the revolutionary new altitude tension and balance system.

A 12" Dobsonian that is compact and light enough for airline travelling ... yes, that is really possible!

These telescopes are not only supremely compact, but also had many very clever features!

A real "eye catcher" - the large PLANEWAVE Flat Field Cassegrain with 20" aperture!

Quite to our surprise the Baader team took only a few minutes to set the instrument up!

For the first time our visitors had the opportunity to have a look through the new LUNT filters and telescopes. The LUNT team was present to answer all questions. We were really impressed by the performance of these instruments!

Wolfi Ransburg doing one of several product presentations. Here he demonstrated our new 9mm Off Axis Guider. He also showed test images taken with our new TS Field Flattener in direct comparison with other existing flatteners - I think it is not too much to say that people were positively surprised by the performance of the new flattener. Our first tests on several very different refractors showed excellent results.

Smile ... No, this is not the new LUNT solar telescope. This is "Andy's Langer Versuchs-Lulatsch" (approximate translation: "Andy's Long Experimental Beanpole"). The objective is the Antares 80/1200mm Achromat. The focuser is the TS Newtonian Crayord focuser. Andy took a full 15 minutes to build the telescope from scratch! (Guiness-people, are you reading this?)

Markus seems to have rather enjoyed the telescope...

In the late afternoon most visitors had left, leaving behind tired but happy people. Here our friends from Baader Planetarium in front of their booth. You can see the Celestron CGE and the 10Micron GM2000, both with Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrains, an Astro-Physics 900 GTO mount with a TEC160 APO, a TEC 140 APO on a Paramount and the 20" Planewave - all of these instruments and mounts are now also available from Teleskop-Service.

In addition to the highlights above we offered many other highlights:

-- For the first time we have shown to some of our customers our new Online Shop. Everybody was enthusiastic about the new design and functionality. The new shop will go online around September.
-- We demonstrated our new 2" TS Field Flattener based on sample images taken with the flattener on several different telescopes. For each telescope we had images for comparison taken with conventional field flatteners. We think it is fair to say that our new Flattener performed even better than expected!
-- The shortest Off Axis Guider - despite its short length the guider is easy to use and sturdy.

We are looking forward to our next Open House Event in 2009!
One thing is for sure: Teleskop-Service isn't just an anonymous online shop - there is something interesting happening all the time, we have almost 50 instruments in the showroom, and most of all: We are passionate amateur astronomers ourselves! We hope that our visitors returned home with this impression!

Best wishes,

Wolfi Ransburg and the Teleskop-Service Team
